When does a family become a family?
From birth? From their years growing together? Or when people are at death’s door?
From afar, this story about a mother and her daughters seems to unfold like a tragedy. Yet a closer look presents a comedy of sorts.
Are they a family?

A Family Story by Hong Kong playwright Yu Yat Hon was first selected in “Project Kite” and has developed subsequently through a public reading, refinement and revisions. Written with a subtle touch that captures the intricacy of closeness and distance in families, this drama invites the audience to enter into the lives of a mother and two daughters, resonating with that duality of intimacy and estrangement of blood relations.

Text Testing Zone is a new project where HKREP provides venue and basic technical support, enabling playwrights with potential to put on new works, testing the quality of their works, and enabling further revisions and refinement in the hopes of future fully-fledged productions.
